The Ocean Beach Town Council and our amazing volunteers delivered nearly 100 care packages to Ocean Beach families and seniors on December 21st. Volunteers helped with the OB Food & Toy Drive throughout the week by sorting, moving, wrapping and packing boxes and bags full of food and toys.

We were also thrilled to be able to bring Christmas trees to our OB families this year, thanks to a generous donation of 100 tabletop trees from Rodney Dow, owner of the Carlsbad Christmas Tree Farm! One mom said her daughter only asked for a tree this year and was so happy to see it, and another child exclaimed “Wow, it really does smell like Christmas!”

Much thanks to Jenn Avoledo, Donna Lamb, Jere Batten, and Claudia Jack for taking leadership roles and their countless hours of work to make this another successful OB Food & Toy Drive — we’re so grateful to them and to everyone who helped all season long!

And a huge thank you to all of our OB Food and Toy Drive partners, donors and sponsors, including OB Kiwanis Club, Point Loma High School JROTC, OB Lion’s Club, Shamrock Foods, Chase Bank, US Bank, Union Bank, Congressman Scott Peters, Assemblywoman Toni Atkins, Rodney Dow, Roger Bresnan, Carol Ladiges of Lighthouse Ice Cream, George Murphy, and all the local OB shops that hosted donation cans!

Volunteers Needed – OB Holiday Food & Toy Drive

The holidays are here, and the Ocean Beach Town Council is gearing up for our annual food & toy drive! We have a big goal this year to feed and provide presents for over 80 local families and seniors. We need your help to get the job done!

We hope that you will join us on one or more of the following dates. We will be meeting at the Point Loma Methodist Church, 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd.

Monday, 12/16 at 5:00pm - Sorting the non-perishable food items.

Tuesday, 12/17 at 5:00pm - Filling and labeling boxes with food and toys

Thursday, 12/19 at 5:00pm - Gift wrapping

Saturday, 12/21 at 8:30am - ALL HANDS ON DECK to distribute and deliver boxes!

If you are able to attend, please bring any additional non-perishable food items or toys to donate. We also could use additional items to help with wrapping (scissors, ribbon, paper, tape, etc.).

Volunteers Needed for OB Holiday Parade!

The Ocean Beach Town Council (OBTC) is seeking the help of 100 responsible persons who would like to volunteer and help ensure that the 34^thAnnual Ocean Beach Holiday Parade is a successful and wonderful event for our community.

The Holiday Parade occurs on Saturday, December 7, 2013, and it cannot occur without the dedicated support of our volunteers.

Details:

● The Parade starts at 5:05 pm (OB Time). All participating volunteers will need to report in to the Ocean Beach Recreation Center, 4726 Santa Monica Ave, Ocean Beach, at 2:00pm sharp on Saturday, December 7^th and check in with the OBTC Volunteer Coordinators.

● Each volunteer will be given an official 2013 Ocean Beach Christmas Festival T-Shirt.

The Ocean Beach Town Council (OBTC) is seeking your sponsorship of the 34th Annual Ocean Beach Holiday Parade – our community’s most iconic event that is attended by thousands of San Diegans.

We are seeking sponsors and donors to help the Parade survive — escalating costs attributed to the City’s permitting process and administrative fees for security, insurance, the fire marshal etc. are pushing the parade costs to unsustainable levels. The Holiday Parade cannot occur without the generous support of our community sponsors. Please support the Parade by becoming an event sponsor and making a generous donation today.

For Parade Sponsors that donate at least $500, our Sponsorship Package includes the following:

Display of your logo on our Parade sponsor webpage with a hyperlink to your website.
Display signage (approximately 1 ½’ x 2’) showing your organization as an official sponsor of the parade located at the base of our 50 foot tall Holiday Tree that is located at the end of Newport Avenue for a full month from December 3rd to January 3rd. This is a high foot traffic area with thousands of daily visitors that stop by to view the tree and have their pictures taken at the foot of the tree.
Placement of one sign/banner up to 3’x5’ provided by your organization on one of the announcer’s towers located along Newport Avenue during the parade.
Waiving of the $50 entry fee if you choose to have an entry/float in the parade.

This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your support for Ocean Beach and connect with thousands of parade attendees, and increase your visibility during the holiday season.

Mark your calendar – our 34th Annual OB Holiday Parade will take place onSaturday, December 7th at 5:05pm (OB time). It will feature over 100 entries celebrating Ocean Beach’s 100th Wonderland Anniversary. Be sure to RSVP and invite all your friends via our Facebook event page.

Applications to participate in the parade are now available online. Be sure to submit your application before the deadline of November 15th!
