We got used to the beach being trashed on the 5th, so we just stayed away. Sadly we missed the early days of this celebration of idiocy (NOT!).

Aren’t most of these people non-residents? Same yokels who think it’s fun to toss firecrackers in a crowd? If they keep it up–something “seriously bad” is more and more likely to happen. Something like the squirt gun fight that nearly destroyed the Balboa Park koi pond.

I would if I could but I was in a car accident and am out of commission for a few weeks through July. I do have to say though that the first time I experienced the “marshmallow fight” I was shocked. When did it become an annual event…it was horrible and dangerous and I won’t attend another 4th of July again until there isn’t a marshmallow fight. I saw kids trampled, personal things destroyed…and it all started right where I was sitting before the fireworks were over. Kids were crying, things were flying and I had to cover us all up under blankets and try to find an escape route…I never expected what was to come when I started hearing drum beats and different types of music and saw people lining up with shields…something out of a ZULU movie…and people were bringing pallets for the fire pit where we were sitting….and then all hell broke loose…I don’t understand what fun anyone got out of that! And the sticky ugly black marshmallow mess went even over to Voltaire and Narragansett st…WOW…please Ban this and maybe the police could round up offenders somewhere and hold them until the next day and give them the job of helping clean up the mess!!
