OBTC 2013-2014 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • The OBTC cultivated stronger OB civic and community engagement by:

    • - Re-launching the Respect OB Campaign and hosting an OB Public Safety Appreciation BBQ with OBMA and their Crime Prevention Committee and other community groups and leaders.

    • - Hosting interesting speakers at OBTC meetings – ranging in topic from bicycle safety advocacy to community engagement to political debates and voter registration

    • - Activating our community to defend our OB Community Plan, which received unanimous approval from City Council

    • - Passing resolutions to express the will and represent the welfare of the community of Ocean Beach

  • The OBTC brought back our tradition of awarding community grants and we awarded $6,000 in community grants to 10 local organizations, groups, and persons that will promote the general betterment and beautification of Ocean Beach and the welfare of our residents.

  • We doubled the number of OBTC college scholarships we awarded

  • We doubled our membership and established and facilitated a Members with Benefits perk program

  • Hosted more beach and alley clean ups and a community garden tour

  • We took second place in the Mother’s Saloon 2nd Annual Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Eating Contest!

  • We got OBTC Board Member Gio Ingolia appointed to San Diego City Mission Bay Park Committee

  • We successfully advocated alongside local parents for the installation of a new Ocean Beach Elementary School Crosswalk

  • After a three year community engagement process, we installed the new OB Entryway Sign  (special thanks to San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts for the grant)

  • We also refurbished the OBTC bulletin board on Newport Avenue

  • We negotiated Community Benefits Package between Ocean Beach and CVS

  • Worked with OBCDC to push forward improvement projects in OB including the Veterans Plaza redevelopment (which included a $5,000 contribution from OBTC), the Saratoga Park tot lot, and Phase 2 of the OB Entryway Project

  • We successfully designed and implemented the Mallow Out Campaign to end the 4th of July Marshmallow War and make Smore’s Not Wars. There was a reported 90% reduction in marshmallows and trash and our Veterans Memorial, streets, and sidewalks were far from being a sticky mess like in 2013.

  • And finally, we facilitated one of the most successful Holiday Parades and Food and Toy Drives last year – even orchestrating the delivery of fresh groceries, gifts, and Christmas trees to more than 80 local families and seniors in need – and we’re going to do it again next year!
