beach parking lots survey
On May 7th the Ocean Beach Town Council hosted a Virtual Community Chat in which we asked the following question to community members :
What is your opinion on implementing a time-limit restriction in our beach parking lots?
The parking lots under consideration are:
- Pier Lot – 5099 Newport Ave.
- Lifeguard Station Lot – 1962 Abbott St.
- Dog Beach Lot – 5156 West Point Loma Blvd.
Community members in Ocean Beach have voiced their concerns about the issues that continue to afflict these lots as a result of the all day free parking. This California Coastal Commision report cites a study in Ocean Beach which found the average duration of parking to be at 4.05 hours in June. and that “four hours has typically been the minimum time limit the Commission has allowed for any beach or coastal access parking in the nearshore areas of San Diego County.”
The current regulations for the specified parking lots are :
- No Cost
- No Parking 2am to 4am Daily
- All Vehicles Must Fit Within Marked Stalls
As always the Mission of the OBTC is to express the will and represent the welfare of the community of Ocean Beach by communicating the views and needs of the community to the appropriate agencies. So please let us know what you think!
This survey is open to members of the OBTC. If you are not already a member, you’ll be given the opportunity to sign up when you start the survey.
