At this month’s meeting of the Ocean Beach Town Council on May 27th at 7:00pm at the Masonic Hall (1711 Sunset Cliffs Blvd), we will hear from concerned citizens who have asked the Ocean Beach Town Council to consider a resolution on “U-T San Diego Local Community Values” advertising circulars that are wrapped in plastic bags and thrown onto the sidewalks, gutters, and streets of Ocean Beach every Friday.

The OB Town Council agreed to hear a presentation on this issue by resident Mary Tolena at our public meeting on May 27th.  Mary will present her findings, including:

  • Prior media reports about efforts in other neighborhoods to stop this practice.
  • Evidence that this practice is bad for the U-T, its advertisers, the environment, and for city services.
The OBTC has invited and welcomed representatives the Union Tribune and LA Times advertising departments and from the City’s Environmental Services department to speak about this topic.

The OB Town Council hosts public meetings on the 4th Wednesday every month except November and December. Regular speakers include local leaders, political, business and SDPD law enforcement representatives, as well as members from all corners of the Ocean Beach community. Whether you’re a long-time OBcean or just want to learn more about OB, all are welcome!
